Putting a hole in gutter work on a rain chain?

if i put a say one inch hole in a k style 4" gutter would that allow a rain chain to work? there’s lots of slope away from the home and a rock garden underneath.

yes… but do have a bowl or a rain barrel or a large flat rock at the bottom of the chain so that water can splash from there into the garden and not just make a river that would erode it….if it can overflow a container more slowly it works very good……..the water still needs to be diverted away from the house foundation!…. here’s a couple pics….
